The MOSCTHA movement began in response to the lack of healthcare services available in sugar refinery communities. Workers in these communities were unable to receive even basic treatment for injuries or illness. As a result, MOSCTHA saw the need to take action and concentrated its efforts to serve the needs of these vulnerable, exploited and underserved communities. However, the majority of sugar refinery communities still lack access to basic healthcare and public services.
MOSCTHA has created a program dedicated to improving the health and wellness of sugar refinery communities. Specifically, we have two mobile health care units that provide free medical consultation to these communities. The objective of the mobile units is to provide access to contraceptive services, family planning, clinical care, sexual and reproductive health, STD/HIV prevention and treatment, maternal and child healthcare, and the detection and treatment of cervical and breast cancer. Additionally, we provide emotional and psychological counseling to individuals and their families who may be affected by life threatening disease. There are currently 33 communities who are benefiting from these programs.
Additionally, our goal is to promote awareness of healthcare by educating the community on preventative measures.
